Who’s
who - Top 37 telecom consulting firms 2012
By Isabelle Paradis, HOT TELECOM
May 2012
The industry’s
top 37 telecom consulting firms continue to control
the vast majority of customers and revenue with
their share of the total telecom consulting market
increasing. In 2011, telecom consulting revenues
from the top 37 players accounted for 90.3% of the
industry’s total.
Telecom consulting revenue enjoyed
by the top 37 is now back to pre-recession levels,
moving up by as much as 10.3% in 2011. ‘When
analysing employment trends over the last 3 years,
we can conclude that the recession had a limited
impact on the top 37 firms’ workforce’
HOT TELECOM’s Vice President Colin Brooks
said. Collectively, these companies employed just
over 1.5 million staff in 2011 and the number of
new hires increased by 11.1%.
Decreasing revenue and stable workforce
therefore generated a decrease in revenue/employee
during 2009 and 2010. Nevertheless, in 2011 most
of the top firms saw an average increase in revenue/employee
of 3.2%.
The unchallenged market leader continues
to be Accenture, with a market share of 17.8%. Accenture’s
hold on the sector suffered during the recession,
however the company came back strongly with a growth
of 29.3% in telecom consulting revenue in 2011.
Now that equipment vendors have
been included in our analysis, Ericsson has taken
the second position in the ranking table, with an
estimated market share of 13.0%. 5.0% of Ericsson
total revenue is estimated to have been generated
by consulting services in 2011.
